MONTICELLO, Maine — Last Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11:15 p.m., Troopers Jillian Monahan and Dennis Quint of the Maine State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 1 in Monticello in the area of the Monticello/Littleton town line.

Patricia Perkins, 35 of Presque Isle, was northbound in her 2002 Saturn passenger car and drifted over the centerline into the path of a southbound 2014 Toyota car operated by Michael Trader, 29, of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Trader could not avoid Perkins’ vehicle and they struck head on, causing substantial damage to both vehicles, which are considered a total loss.
Trader was uninjured in the crash, but Perkins sustained serious internal injuries and the Monticello Fire Department Jaws of Life had to be utilized to remove her from her vehicle. Perkins was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment and then transferred to EMMC in Bangor.
Both parties were wearing their seatbelts and speed was not a factor in the crash.
Assisting at the scene were the Monticello Fire Department and Houlton Ambulance Service.
