Officials seize remnants of meth lab

EASTON, Maine — Law enforcement recovered items believed to be part of a methamphetamine manufacturing lab, following the discovery in a local business’s trash disposal unit on April 20.

“Employees of an Easton business found what turned out to be the remnants of a methamphetamine lab in their dumpster on Monday afternoon. The reaction bottle was removed from the dumpster as a possible ‘returnable,’ before they became suspicious and called us,” said Sheriff Darrell Crandall, of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Crandall said additional help was requested to investigate, since hazardous materials were involved.
“Sheriff’s deputies responded and confirmed the hazard. MDEA and DEP came to the business and disposed of it in accordance with OSHA regulations,” said Crandall.
If suspicious materials are found, the public is urged to contact local law enforcement and not to handle the items.
“We urge the public not to handle items they suspect may have been used to make meth. Call us and we will see that it is taken away safely,” said Crandall.
Crandall did not indicate who may have left the material in the dumpster. Anyone with information is asked to call the ACSO at 800-432-7842.
