Many events planned during Mapleton Daze celebration

    Mapleton Daze organizers invite all to attend the numerous activities and events scheduled today through Sunday, June 28. The event kicking off the annual weekend will be a 100th Social at the Chapman Ridge Runners Clubhouse. This 4 p.m. event tonight is open to Chapman residents only.

    Children are invited to attend the Bike Rodeo at 6 p.m. tonight in the parking lot of Mapleton Elementary School. Volunteers will be giving instruction on riding a bicycle including safety, technique and the proper way to wear a helmet. Participants will need to bring their own bicycles.
    Thursday will be the annual Woodie Waddell Memorial Cribbage Tournament downstairs at the Lions’ Hall at 7 pm. Bingo will take place at the same time upstairs.
    Friday’s events will start off with the Lions Club’s annual chicken barbecue in the elementary school parking lot. In addition to chicken, there will be other food vendors present, along with homemade pies and ice cream and coffee. At 6 p.m. will be a kids’ costume parade for children in pre-K through grade 5. Prizes will be awarded. Friday evening also includes musical entertainment by Wendell Hudson and his band and fireworks at dusk.
    Saturday starts off bright and early at 7 a.m. with a “Breakfast with a View” hike to the top of Haystack Mountain and breakfast at the summit. The annual parade steps off at 10 a.m. and will be led by the bike parade which merges in off the Pool Road. Prizes will be awarded for specific categories in both parades.
    The Haystack Historical Society Museum will be open at 10 a.m. Homemade pies and ice cream will be sold. Bakers wishing to compete in the Whoopie Pie Baking Contest can drop off their entries at the Museum from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Shine ‘n Show Classic Car Show will be held in the Mapleton Baptist Church parking lot at 11 a.m. Children’s activities will also start at 11 a.m. at the elementary school and include a children’s sandbox, bounce houses, games and face painting. Food vendors will be set up selling various delectables and craft vendors will be selling their handmade items.
    The Mapleton Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting the 80th Aroostook County Fireman’s Muster at noon in the elementary school parking lot. At 5 p.m., a baked bean supper will be served at the Lions’ Hall to benefit Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery. (C.A.N.C.E.R.). The Mapleton Alumni will have their banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the elementary school and Sound Friendship will be playing at the Lions’ Hall from 6-9 p.m.
    Sunday wraps up the weekend with a sunrise service at the gazebo with Pastor Nathan Gardiner at 7 a.m. Rain location will be the Lions’ Hall. The Jerry Dow and Merlyn Buck 20th Memorial Walk will start at 9 a.m. Walkers will meet in front of the Lions’ Hall.

Road closure

    Main Street (Route 163) in Mapleton will be closed from Dudley Road to the Mapleton Elementary School on Saturday, June 27 from 10-11 a.m. for the Mapleton Daze Parade.
    Eastbound traffic will need to detour in Ashland on Route 227. Westbound will need to detour on Garland Road northbound to Route 227. Otherwise, stop and enjoy the parade!

Parade entries

    Mapleton Daze is this weekend and committee organizers are looking for entries for this year’s parade. The parade lineup is on the Dudley Road at 9 a.m. and the parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27. Prizes will be awarded in various categories. Benefit garage sale

    There will be a garage sale on Saturday, June 27 on University Street in Presque Isle from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Castle Hill Advent Christian Church.
