MERRILL, Maine — Approximately 87 children got their chance to see Santa and share their Christmas wishes on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, as the Merrill Millstream Park committee hosted it’s annual Christmas In The Park.

Families came from surrounding towns of Merrill, Smyrna, Oakfield, and even Houlton. While Santa’s arrival at 10 a.m. was the main attraction, many other unexpected treats awaited those attending. Hot chocolate and cookies  were generously handed out as  everyone got there early awaiting Santa’s arrival.

The park committee was able to hand out 50 school backpacks donated by Wings for Children and Families, stuffed animals and new books donated by Kohl’s and Families and Children Together. Santa gave each child a “goodie bag” made possible by the Mike and Heidi Memorial Fund, in memory of Mike Kitchen and Heidi Pratt.

According to Ken Bustard,  chairman of the MMP committee, the event was the “best Christmas in The Park to date. The weather was incredible.  We got just enough snow that week  to make it festive.  Kids had a great time, not just seeing Santa and getting lots of gifts, but taking time to build a snowman, enjoy the playground equipment and just hang out for a while as opposed to rushing home due to the cold. “

Various volunteers showed up to help make the event successful. Among those volunteering were Ralph and Cindy Bartman, Andy and Jill Bustard, Alberta McDonald, Isaiah Littleton, Ken and Pearl Bustard, Brenda Hersey and John and Kathy Hall.
