Town reports, budget sessions coming up

 MAPLETON NEWS

Annual report letters for the Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman annual town report are due at the town office by Friday, Jan. 29, 2016. Send the letters to the attention of Theresa Denbow or email t.denbow@mapleton.me.

Additionally, this year’s report cover will be chosen from the winner of the annual town report photo contest. Contest information is available on the towns’ web site at www.mapleton.me.

Town budget meetings

The Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman 2016 budget process is under way. The proposed budget and its associated budget document have been posted on the towns’ web site.
Select Board meetings to review and approve the budget will be held the first week of February. The Castle Hill Board meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 2, and 7 p.m.; Chapman’s will be Thursday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m.; and Mapleton’s will be Thursday, Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m.
All meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.
If any residents are interested in learning more about the budget prior to Town Meeting, please call Town Manager Jon Frederick at 764-3754 or email townmanager@mapleton.me. If there are enough interested residents, a meeting will be scheduled. Otherwise, Frederick will meet individually with anyone interested.

Dog licenses due

The state of Maine requires all dogs to be licensed by Jan. 31 of each year in the municipality where the dog is kept. The fees are $6 per spayed or neutered dog and $11 per dog capable of reproducing. A late fee of $25 will be added to the license fee starting Monday, Feb. 1.
Stop by the town office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. by Friday, Jan. 29, to license your beloved pet.

Looking for Girl Scouts

A new Girl Scout Troop is being formed in the Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill communities. There will be a parent informational meeting on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at the West Chapman Advent Christian Church for girls in Kindergarten through third grade.
During this meeting, parents will learn about the Girl Scout program and have the opportunity to register their girls for Scouting. Parents, grandparents and extended family members are also encouraged to register as volunteers.
The membership fee for girls is $30 and $15 for any adult volunteer and will be collected on the 30th, along with the completed application.
There are also girls in grades 4 and 5 in the region who would like to join Scouts. Volunteers are being sought to serve as leader or co-leaders for this group.
For more information, contact Amanda Robinson at 267-1073 or Lisa Dean at 762-6373.

Pageant participants

For those who missed the pageant informational meeting Jan. 24 but have a daughter who wants to participate in the Mapleton pageants, there is still time to sign up. There are divisions available for girls in grades 1-12. Girls must be residents of Mapleton, Chapman or Castle Hill.
The pageant is set for April 2. For more information, contact Paula Shaw at 764-1652 or at paulabradleyshaw@gmail.com.
