Ethel Mae Crowley passed away peacefully at her home on June 8 , 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 26, 1924, the daughter of Maurice and Maude King in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
She was raised in Cambridge and attended the local schools. She married her husband, Joseph James Crowley of South Boston, Massachusetts on September 7, 1945.
Ethel worked for the Ford Motor Company in Lansing, Michigan, The Westland Shoe Company and Shape Inc. which were both located in Biddeford, Maine. She retired at the young age of 70 and she loved to read, shop, and traveled extensively seeing many parts of the country. She had a passionate love of animals. But, what she enjoyed the most was spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Joseph James Crowley Sr; her son, Joseph James Jr.; her granddaughter, Meghan Erin Crowley; her great-grandson; Jacob Perkins Hyde; her parents and brothers, Roy King, John King, Maurice King, and Billy King and her sister, Dorothy Eon.
Ethel is survived by her sons, Dennis Crowley of Biddeford, Patrick Crowley and wife Laurie Crowley of Houlton; daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Crowley and partner Lewis Hyde of Lyman, Maine; daughter-in-law, Cathy, Crowley of Tuscon, Arizona; grandchildren, Catrina Henneman of Los Angeles, CA, Joseph Crowley III of Waterboro, Maine, Ryan Crowley of Charleston, SC, Melisa Elson and husband, Scott of Saco, Maggie Crowley of Houlton, Ethan Hyde of Waterboro; and great-grandchildren, Harper and Alison Elson of Saco, Maine.
Per Ethel’s request there will be no services or calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ethel’s memory to the Ark Animal Sanctuary or the Meduxnekeag River Pony Club which are both located in Houlton or charity of one’s choice.
