Soccer winners advance in Elks’ competition

The winners from the separate “Soccer Shoot” penalty kicking competitions at the individual Elks lodges in the Northern District of Maine competed on Sunday at the University of Maine at Presque Isle for the right to advance to the State of Maine “Soccer Shoot” penalty kicking contest, which will take place at the Augusta Elks Lodge this Sunday, Oct. 16.

The Northern District winners for the 7-years-old and under age category were McKinley Cronin and Raiden Cochran. The top soccer kickers in the 8- and 9-year-old division were Mallory Cronin and Brandon Barton. In the 10- and 11-year-old category, the winners were Jenna Cochran and Blake Davenport. Kearstin Coty and Benjamin Ryan were the top scorers in the 12- and 13-year-old division.
Of the eight District “Soccer Shoot” winners, five were from the competition hosted by the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge 1954, two were from the Houlton Elks Lodge competition, and one came from the Millinocket Elks Lodge “Soccer Shoot.”
Co-directors of the Northern District Soccer Shoot were Michael LaFrance of Presque Isle and John Bither, Jr. from the Houlton Elks Lodge.
“The competition in all age categories, in both the boys and girls divisions, was at a high level,” said LaFrance. “Based upon the performances by the winners, all have an excellent shot at becoming Soccer Shoot state champions this Sunday.”
