PT Terry AdamsADAMS, Terry A., 53, St. Augustine, FL, Jan. 10, 2017. A celebration of life will be held on Mon. Jan 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla. and in Houlton in the spring. 

 

Terrance A. Adams, 53 of St. Augustine, Florida was called home to paradise Tues., January 10, 2017. He was born September 30, 1963 at Houlton, Maine, the son of the late William S. Adams Sr. and Lois Adams(Guy).

He graduated Houlton High School, the class of 1981. He attended Elon College, Elon, North Carolina and graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Maine. Golf was Terry’s life, had been a Class A Member of the PGA for over 24 years and granted LIFE MEMBER status on September 2012. He competed in chapter section and national PGA events and he was a the multiple winner of the Maine Chapter New England Section PGA Teacher of the year and Junior Golf Leader awards. His “Adams Aproach” golf student handbook was featured in Maine Golf Magazine and the New England Journal of Golf.

He was also nominated for the 2013 Maine Golf Hall of Fame. During his career, he served as Golf pro and instructor at various Maine and Florida country clubs: Web Hannett Country Club in Kennebunkport, ME., Vall Halla Country Club, Cumberland, ME., Sun & Lake Golf course, Sebring, Fla. and Sunnybreeze Golf course in Fort Ogden, Fla. He served as pro and owner of the Learning Center in Cumberland, Maine. He designed and built his own 9 hole par 3 course in Wells, Maine. He took a wooded area, knocked down trees and built the course with his blood, sweat and tears, an accomplishment he was the most proud of.

Teaching golf was Terry’s passion, especially children; participating in the Special Olympics and Junior Golf Promotion. He had the priviledge of giving lessons to President George W. Bush and President George W. Bush Jr., as well as country stars Glen Campbell and Kenny Rodgers. Ironically, Terry was teaching a golf lesson when God called him home! Terry was a member of the Wesleyan Church of Houlton, Maine. He was a Master Mason of Houlton Lodge # 96, A.F.&A.M., Houlton, Maine, and was a member of the Houlton Community Golf Course. He always had a smile, welcoming all that he met. He was a kind, gentle, loving man. He will be missed by all.

Terry is survived by his fiance, Leslie V. Sinclair of St. Augustine, Fla., one sister Deborah A. Brewer (Leslie) of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a brother, Gerald Adams of Houlton; two sister-in-laws Brenda Adams of Houlton, and Cynthia Adams od Goldsboro, North Carolina and several aunts, uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Nancy Toner of Bangor, and two brothers, Larry Adams of Houlton, and William S. Adams Jr. of Goldsboro, N.C.

A celebration of his life will be held Mon. Jan 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Royal St. Augstine Golf & Country Club in St. Augstine, FL, and his beloved town. of Houlton in the spring.
