Bernier, Flewelling take top placements in spelling bee

The first round of the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee was held at the Easton Junior-Senior High School gymnasium Jan. 11 and congratulations goes to the winner, Logan Bernier, and the runner up, Mitchell Flewelling.

Upcoming recreation department activitiesLogan is the daughter of Leane Saucier and Mitchell is the son of Loren and Peggy Flewelling. The two will represent Easton at the Aroostook County Spelling Bee, which be held on Thursday, Feb. 2 in Fox Auditorium at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

Wednesday, Jan. 18: junior activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall; third and fourth grade basketball at the elementary school from 2:45-4. P.m.; fifth and sixth grade basketball at the elementary school from 5:30-6:45 p.m.
Thursday, Jan. 19: first and second grade basketball practice from 2:45-3:45 p.m. in the Elementary School gym; fifth and sixth grade basketball games in Fort Fairfield, with the girls playing at 3:45 p.m. and the boys at 4:45 p.m. at the FF Community Center gymnasium.
Friday, Jan. 20: junior activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall; senior game day at the Manor starting at 11:15 a.m. (Please bring a bag lunch.)
Monday, Jan. 23: senior nutrition class at the Manor at 11 a.m. We’ll be making broccoli and cheddar soup. The cost is $3; after-school cooking at the Hall until 4 p.m. We’ll be making boot track cookies and there is no cost; fifth and sixth grade girls practice afterschool in the elementary school gym from 2:45-4:15 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 24: fifth and sixth grade basketball games at Mars Hill, with the girls playing at 3:30 p.m. and the boys at 4:15 p.m. at Mars Hill Community Center (former ACI School); Little Bears cheerleading practice from 2:45-4 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.
Wednesday, Jan. 25: no junior activities; third and fourth grade basketball at the elementary school from 2:45-4 p.m.; fifth and sixth grade basketball at the elementary school from 6-7:30 p.m.

Upcoming library hours

The community library will resume its regular schedule. All after-school activities that they host will now be held at the elementary school. On Saturdays, the community library will be held at the Easton High School library and will feature a story time from 10 to 10:30 a.m. geared for toddlers/pre-K to grade 3. Children under 5 need to be accompanied by an adult.
The story time will include a picture book with an activity/color page to follow. More program activities may also be offered for other age groups. Look for Community Story Time notices and sign up forms. Please return completed notices to main office or signup in the office.
This week’s dates include Jan. 18 at the elementary school and Jan. 21 at the high school.
