PI drops pair of matches

The Presque Isle hockey team and its depleted roster had no answers for two of the top teams in Class B North this past week.

PI, without Jake Stevens and Carter Jackson, both lost for the season due to fractured clavicles according to coach Carl Flynn, was beaten by Old Town/Orono at home Thursday, 13-2, and by Waterville on the road Monday, 13-0.
Sophomore Thomas Patenaude also missed the latest game, due to illness.
Waterville sits atop the Heal Point standings with a 9-0 record and Old Town/Orono is second at 8-0-1.
In Thursday’s game, Jacob Dubay scored four times to lead the Black Bears to the comfortable win. Colby Bonville tallied his first career goal for PI and Denny Young netted the team’s other goal. After opening with three consecutive home wins, the Wildcats have now dropped two straight at the Forum.
Andre Daigle and Bryce Bonville combined for the goaltending chores for PI and faced a total of 33 shots. PI took 20 shots on Black Bear goalies Khole Parker and Brendon Gasaway.
On Monday, PI surrendered five first-period goals for the second straight game as the Purple Panthers were too much in recording the convincing shutout win in Waterville. Justin Wentworth and Jackson Aldrich each snared hat tricks in the victory. Bonville and Daigle again shared goal-keeping duties for PI and faced 47 shots. PI got off only nine shots on Waterville goalie Nathan Pinterest.
The Wildcats, now 3-7 overall and in seventh place in the division, will look to get back on track when they play winless Class A team Lawrence/Skowhegan (0-8) at home Saturday. The puck drops at 1:15 p.m.
