AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — Residents from Monticello and New Limerick gathered in their respective communities Monday evening for their annual town meetings.

In Monticello, about 34 people met at the fire station, where they approved a $610,623 municipal budget. That figure is an increase of only $1,210 from last year.

Terrance Wade was re-elected to a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen with 80 votes. Joining Wade on the board is Maxwell Good, who received 66 votes. Other candidates were Josh Harvey, 36 votes; Jimmy Burpee, 35 votes; and David Wallingford, 20.

Jeannie Tapley received 37 votes as a write-in candidate for the RSU 29 board. Town Manager Ginger Pryor said Tapley has agreed to take the seat.

At New Limerick, residents approved a municipal budget of $375,764. That figure is an increase of $22,706. Town manager Judy Nightingale attributed that 6.4 percent increase to a potential tax abatement request for Louisiana Pacific.

Tana McNutt was re-elected to the Board of Selectmen. She was running unopposed. Curtis Harrison and Jared Hand were both elected to the SAD 70 school board.
