Mars Hill sets homecoming dates

MARS HILL, Maine — Homecoming 2017 will take place this year from Aug. 10-13. For those intending to be part of the parade, sign up ahead of time to help with planning. Those who sign up after Aug. 6 will be charged $25.  Sign-up sheets are available at the Mars Hill Town Office or at www.homecomingdays.org.  

Organizers are seeking food and craft vendors for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Contact Kathy at 425-3771 for more information or to sign up for a space. Classes planning reunions should also contact Kathy.

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday, March 28, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. Rotarian Rena Kearney presented a slide show of her visits to Israel in 2010 and ‘12.  She visited Caesarea, Nazareth, Capernaum and the Sea of Galilee, as well as Jerusalem, among other sites.  

School Registration

MSAD 42 will hold pre-K and kindergarten registration on Friday, April 14, at the Fort Street School. Classes are open to 4- and 5-year-old children of the Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater area.

Students currently enrolled in the 4-year-old program do not need to register. For more information, including necessary paperwork to bring, call the school.

Library Events

On Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. authors Mark Nickerson and John Ford will speak at the library about poignant and humorous stories from their days in law enforcement.  Nickerson spent 28 years as a Maine State Trooper while Ford spent 20 years as a Maine Warden before being elected Sheriff in Waldo County.

On Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m. Linda Trickey from the University of Maine Extension will speak about “How to Plan & Plant Your Garden.”

Library Evening Hours

The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library will be doing a three-month trial of extended night hours in February, March and April.  Due to requests for more evening hours, the library will be open from 12:30-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  If this is well received by our patrons, it will become our new standard.

Upcoming events for the week of April 5-11 include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Fun with Jess & Devin at 9:30 a.m. and Resident’s Council at 2 p.m.  Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., BYF Potluck Luncheon at 11 a.m. and Bridgewater Free Baptist at 6:30 p.m. Friday will feature Spring Jingo at 9:30 a.m. and Dayroom Cinema with Popcorn at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Karaoke with The Deschesnes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday will have televised church available in the day room and Sunday Service with Jonathan at 1:30 p.m. Monday will feature Nails by Shallie and Melissa at 9:30 a.m. and Adult Coloring at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m. FMI call Connie or Vicki at 768-4915.

BINGO

The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill is hosting BINGO on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post.
