Easton native Carla Halvorson was named the Female Athlete of the Year at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s annual Athletics Banquet this past week.

The senior had a standout season on the women’s soccer team.  She received First Team Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) honors and helped lead her team to the championship game of the ACAA Conference Tournament.

Halvorson was the team’s leading scorer with 29 points.  Her 13 goals led UMPI and she added three assists on the season, which was second on the team.  She added two game-winning goals; at home against Maine-Machias, her goal in the 53rd minute helped the Owls beat the Clippers 1-0, then later on the road vs. Daniel Webster, with the score tied at three, she netted a goal with 1:36 seconds remaining to give the Owls a 4-3 victory.

Halvorson was named the USCAA Player of the Week in September.  Her lone goal against Unity College helped the Owls to a 1-1 draw in that game.  Later in the week she scored two goals early in the second half to propel the Owls to their first win of the season.

She was also named Player of the Week by the AD3I for the week ending Oct. 16, 2016.  Her game winner against Daniel Webster kicked off the week, and she followed that up with three goals and an assist in a win at Hampshire.  Her two goals against Fisher gave her six goals and an assist in those three games.

The AD3I named her the Student-Athlete of the Month for October.  The Owls went 4-2-1 during that period, with Halvorson contributing eight goals, one assist and her two game winners. She finished the season ranked second in the AD3I in goals and fourth in overall points.

Head Coach Trevor Parent praised her efforts.  “We knew Carla was coming in as a proven student-athlete, having three years at the NCAA Division II level.  Her talents are undeniable and she was quite deserving of each of the recognitions she picked up throughout the year.”

Halvorson will graduate this spring with a degree in liberal studies.

Admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for children. Funds raised will become the budget for next year’s production.
