HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Police Department held its annual awards ceremony May 19 with a gala dinner at the Houlton Lodge of Elks to honor officers and members of the public for their service.
Laura Beals, Parker Carmichael, Charlene Crandall and Melony Bickford each were presented with a Community Service Award.
“The Community Service Award is given to community members who have given volunteer time to the Houlton Police Department in the spirit of community in support of law enforcement,” Chief Tim DeLuca said. “Their valuable time and efforts have improved the police services and are a true display of people helping people. The police department employees want to thank them for their support.”
The chief said Carmichael, a student at Houlton Middle-High School, helped out around the station with several painting projects. Beals aided the department with the creation of the “MyPD” app for smartphones, while Crandall and Bickford assisted at the station with renovation projects.
Travis Smith received a department commendation, while Richard York, Gary McGuire, Stephen Nason, William Janakis and Matthew Quint were lauded with department citations.
Dispatcher Wanda Scott was presented with an award for her 30-years of service to the department. Others receiving years of service awards were: Thomas Milton (15 years), Nason (10 years), and York, Theron Bickford, McGuire and Charles Wampler (5 years each).
