Beckum, Desmond are road race series leaders

Six of the nine races have been completed in the County Challenge Road Racing Series and some perennial favorites are turning in strong showings, while a few newcomers also are making their mark.

The remaining three races are the Caribou Labor Day 8K on Sept. 4, the Caribou Marathon, Half, and Relay on Sept. 17 and the Caribou Turkey Trot on Nov. 25. Final series awards will be presented at the Aroostook Musterds Running Club’s annual ceremony to be held Dec. 2.

To date, the compiled age group and overall division points show Marie Beckum and Evan Desmond, both of Caribou, leading the way.

Beckum is in control of the women’s division with 60 points. She is followed by Katie Malone (28) and Angela Ewings (24).

On the men’s side Desmond leads with 29 points. Chris Rines, with 26, trails by only three points and Evan Graves is next with 21.

Age group leaders in the women’s division include: 14 and under: Mia Henderson, Rylee Saucier, Sophia Dean and Lindsay Ditolla, all tied for first; 15-18: Ashley Violette, first place, and Grace Graham, Madeline Gudde, Sarah Beaulieu and Kayla Ditolla, all tied for second; 19-29: Jaylee Fox, first place; Janelle Humphrey, second; and Katie Frei, Misty Steward and Amy Dionne, all tied for third.

Also, 30-39: Beckum, first place; Malone, second; and Gabrielle Wheeler, third; 40-49: Ewings, first place; Ellen Bemis, second; and Kristie Bray, Pam Savage and Y Natalie Jeong, tied for third; 50-59: Anna Bernard, Patricia Hebert and Yvonne Gould, all tied for first; and 60-69: Connie McLellan, first; and Debra Scott, second.

Men’s age group leaders are: 14 and under: George J. Ferland, first place; Soucy, second; and Austin Winslow, James Cherrier and Henry McDevitt, all tied for third; 15-18: Evan Desmond, first place; Isaiah Brown, second; and Dylan Marrero, tied for third; 19-29: Rines, first place; Bradley Burlock, second; and Dean Patten, third).

Also, 30-39: Graves, first;  Emerson Wright, second; and Curtis Wheeler, third; 40-49: Thomas Beckum, first place Steven Desmond, second; and George H. Ferland, third; 50-59: Craig Reese, first place; Bruce Clark, second; and Brent Bailey, third; 60-69: Ed Malone, first place; and Bob Davis and Rusty Taylor, tied for second; and 70-79: Bruce Alexander and Dave Samuelian, tied for first.

The Aroostook Musterds Running Club is a family-oriented group which encourages the development of health, fitness and positive competition through the sport of running.

Each year, the club awards a $500 scholarship to a student entering college who plans to continue running. Funds are raised from membership dues, through advertisements sold in the club’s annual “Aroostook Road Racing Calendar,” and from funds generated at the Caribou Labor Day 8K.
