Houlton golfers prepare for PVCs

The Houlton golf team capped its regular season with a pair of wins this past week. The Shires are now focusing their attention on a strong showing at the Penobscot Valley Conference Championship.

Houlton finished its regular season with a 16-1 match record. The Shires only loss was to Mattanawcook Academy. Houlton, along with Carlisle, will compete in the PVC championship and regional qualifier Thursday, at 9 a.m. at the JaTo Golf Course in Lincoln.

Houlton golf 172, Hermon 173, Carlisle 181 — The Carlisle golf team hosted Houlton and Hermon Friday at Caribou Country Club. The Shires received 41s from Drew Marino, Nick Brewer and Wyatt Harvey to nip the Hawks by a stroke and Carlisle by nine.

Gabe Rand of the host Carlisle squad was the medalist with a 39. Libby Boone shot a 46 and both Seth Roy and Ian MacKinnon carded 48s.

Kent Johnson shot a 40 to lead Hermon.

Houlton golf 175, Calais 227 — At Calais, Houlton played its final match of the regular season. Marino was the medalist on the day with a 40. Results for other Houlton golfers were: Brewer 41, Harvey 45, Isaac Vega 49, Devin Ivey 50, Carson Grant 50, Sydney Lorom 60 and Rhetta Vega 60.

Shane Delmanaco led Calais with a 45.
