Radio, internet will broadcast HS hoops

Townsquare Media and WHOU 100.1 FM, as well as an online service based in Easton, will be broadcasting high school basketball games over the airwaves on via the internet this winter.

The Rock 101.9 FM radio station will air 30 games, with broadcast veteran Bill Casavant handling most of the play-by-play. Ryan Guerrette and Jeff Clockedile also will be part of the broadcast team.

The upcoming schedule through the end of December is:

Thursday, Dec. 14 — Houlton at Presque Isle boys, 7 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 18 — Central Aroostook at Fort Fairfield girls, 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 20 — Caribou at Houlton boys, 7 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 22 — Southern Aroostook at Houlton girls, 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 27 — MDI at Caribou girls and boys, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 28 — MDI at Presque Isle girls and boys, 1 and 2:30 p.m.

Guerrette, the station manager, said 101.9 The Rock this year will deliver tournament coverage of all Aroostook County teams with the local announcing crew.

Up to 90 games will be provided by WHOU 100.1 FM. The station will broadcast with video on its website, www.whoufm.com, with north and south streams available to allow two games to be shown on the same night.

Ken Holck returns for his 20th season calling basketball games, with Rob Moran providing color for most of the contests on radio and the south stream. Tim Tweedie and Joe Cyr will fill in occasionally. Representing the north stream will be the primary duo of Steve Carmichael and Bobby Russell, with Kevin Sjoberg and Bill Guerrette also involved in some of the broadcasts.

The station also will cover games at the tournament this coming February for teams from central and southern Aroostook County.

Saturday, Dec. 16 — Maine Central Institute at Caribou girls and boys, 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., North Stream; Hodgdon at GHCA boys, 7 p.m., radio and South Stream.

Monday, Dec. 18 — Southern Aroostook at Houlton boys, 7 p.m., radio and South Stream.; Central Aroostook at Fort Fairfield girls, North Stream.

Tuesday, Dec. 19 — Caribou at Houlton girls, 7 p.m. radio and South Stream

Jim Carter is the play-by-play announcer and Kurt Bates, Larry Worcester and Scott Olson share color duties.
