The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met in the Parish Center Feb. 5 for their monthly meeting.  There were 11 members present and Deacon Al.

Vice president Janet Barker led the group in our opening prayer, salute to the flag and cross and hymn.  After a blessing offered by Deacon Al, we enjoyed a luncheon prepared by the February committee.

The business meeting was conducted by Vice President Janet Barker.   Charlene Tabb sat in as secretary and read the minutes from the January meeting.  Treasurer Jane Mitchell gave the treasurer’s report.  Historian, Jane Stile presented photos of the old St. Mary’s Church and also photos of Deacon Al’s service to the church through the years.

The group prepared Valentine bags for the shut-ins and several people volunteered to deliver them.

HCCW will once again donate a girl’s bike for the St. Patrick’s Bazaar raffle, which will be held March 17.

We were asked to think about our year-end banquet and make suggestions.

Co-secretary Judy O’Mara has resigned as she will be leaving the area.

Deacon Al told us of his retirement party which was held in Bangor recently.  Father Dave and Father Kent celebrated a Mass for him at St. John’s church in Bangor.  Deacon Al has retired from Catholic Charities.

Milford Clark, brother of three of our members, Bunny, Mary and Jane, generously donated to our Valentine Bag project.

Birthdays and anniversaries were noted.  Mary Grant won the door prize. Prayer requests were received and we closed with the Our Father and three Hail Marys.

Our next meeting will be at 5:30 in the Parish Center on March 5.  All Catholic ladies are invited.
