Randall Himes and Kelly Koziol have been hired as track and field head coaches this spring at Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield, respectively.
Himes replaces Mike Waugh, while Koziol succeeds Michele Czosnek. Both stepped down after last season.
Himes, a Mapleton resident who is an optometrist at TAMC Eye Care, has been a volunteer assistant soccer coach at Presque Isle Middle School the past two seasons. He was a scholarship track athlete at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, from 1997-2000 and was a conference champion in the high hurdles. His teams won indoor and outdoor conference championships each season.
Himes went on to serve as an undergraduate assistant coach at BYU for one season, overseeing sprints and hurdles.
Koziol served as a track and field coach at Fort Fairfield High School for 15 years beginning in 1990 before taking some time off while her daughter Logan competed. She then resumed her coaching career at the middle school level from 2013-2017.
She is a 1989 graduate of FFHS and still holds the school record in the high hurdles and the triple jump. She holds bachelor’s degrees in physical education and health education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from New England College. She has been a health, physical education and Basic Life Support instructor at Fort Fairfield Middle/High School since 2000.
Koziol also has experience coaching cheering and boys’ soccer at Fort Fairfield.
Track and field practices begin Monday, March 26, at both schools.
