The UMPI baseball team won for just the second time this season, topping Rivier University Friday, 12-3, in the second game of a doubleheader played in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Colby Spencer earned the win on the mound. He gave up only three earned runs in his 5-1/3 innings of work, striking out seven. Reliever Austin Coulston went the final 1 2/3 innings, walking one and not allowing a run or a hit.

Ryan Sanderson, Matt Cauchon and Bradley Patterson all had run-scoring hits in the third inning to give UMPI the lead. Will Stinson, Keanu Vincente, Saul Nunez and Patterson had singles during an eight-run rally in the fourth which put the game away.

In game one, Nunez allowed only one earned run, struck out five and walked only one. He surrendered only three hits in his six-inning stint, but the Owls generated just three hits and were unable to plate a run in the 2-0 loss. Cauchon, Christian Mumley and Frank Nunez each singled for UMPI.

On Saturday, the Owls were swept by Baruch College of New York City by scores of 8-4 and 15-5, while on Sunday they lost both ends of a doubleheader to Fisher College back in Lynn, Massachusetts, 8-1 and 8-4.

The Owls record stands at 2-16.
