Rep. David McCrea (D-Fort Fairfield) invited the Easton Junior/Senior High School Band, under the direction of Pamela Kinsey, to perform at the Statehouse on March 22.

The Band had a very early morning to arrive at the Augusta site at 8 a.m. They were able to perform for about 40 minutes in the rotunda of the Capitol building as people were arriving for the work day. The sounds of the band were heard throughout the building.

At the beginning of the legislative session, Kevin Kinsey was invited to be the ‘Chaplain for the Day’ and offered the opening prayer. At the conclusion of the prayer, the Easton High School Jazz Trio, consisting of seniors Cecelia Ferris, Katelyn White and Isabelle Morin, sang an a cappella version of ‘The Star Spangled Banner” from the House floor.  It was extremely well received and one member of the House even stopped the girls on their way out to tell them it was the best Star Spangled Banner they had heard all year.

Six students also had the opportunity to be honorary pages for the House’s morning session.  Katelyn White, Cecelia Ferris, Isabelle Morin, Isaac Clark, Amelia Bate and Karla Chege chose to take advantage of this opportunity and had a very interesting experience.

The remainder of the band toured the Capitol building and had some time at the Maine State Museum.  After the group left Augusta, they traveled to Waterville, where they had a guided tour of the Colby College Art Museum. They have the largest museum and art collection north of Boston, so this was a real treat for the Easton students.

After a dinner of pizza, the group headed back to Easton.  It was a long but fulfilling day.
