CARIBOU, Maine — Dozens of Caribou residents gathered in lawn chairs outside the Maine Veterans’ Home to see the 195th Maine Army National Guard Band perform on June 27 while others watched from parked cars.
As the sun began to set, the band showcased their musical chops by playing a myriad of melodies in the veterans’ home parking lot, which is shared by Cary Medical Center.
They began with two strong opening numbers, the Canadian National Anthem, played to honor the United States’ northern neighbors who are relatively close to the Caribou — America’s most northeastern city. The band then played the United States National Anthem, after which the they performed a medley of Beatles songs ending with “Hey Jude.”
The Caribou concert was one of many stops on the Maine Army National Guard’s 2018 summer tour across the state. The concert series is presented on behalf of Major General Douglas Farnham, Adjutant General of the Maine Army National Guard, and CW3 Brady Harris, Commander of the 195th Army Band.
