PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Porter Gervais defeated Aidan Boyce in a playoff to capture the title in the 51st Coca-Cola Spudland Open Golf Tournament, played Saturday and Sunday at Presque Isle Country Club.

Gervais, who is from Houlton, shot a 72 Saturday and was three strokes behind Boyce entering the second round, but came back with a 70 to force the playoff. Gervais then birdied the extra hole, while Boyce parred it.

Gervais had registered the low net score at last year’s event.

Boyce and two-time defending champion Lance Bernier tied for the lead after Saturday’s play, both carding 69s.

Clinton Deschene of Presque Isle recorded the low net score by posting a 133. Ralph Michaud carded a 144 and won the Joseph J. Freeman Award by being the Presque Isle Country Club member with the low gross score.
