NEW SWEDEN, Maine — A short-lived, but intense, thunderstorm passed through the area along Route 161 this morning, toppling over trees and knocking out power for hundreds of New Sweden Area residents.

Emera Maine Communications Specialist Judy Long said Tuesday that, at the peak of the outage, about 1,300 customers in the New Sweden area were left without power, but that number was soon cut down to about 600.

Crews are working to restore power, and according to Long, the remaining 600 customers should see their power restored by early afternoon.
