LIMESTONE, Maine — Contractors are hard at work putting the finishing touches on a new Dollar General store in Limestone on the Access Highway. While there was no specific date for completion set as of Sept. 25, Dollar General Media Relations Specialist Angela Petkovic indicated that the Limestone store is slated for a mid-fall opening with the caveat that “construction progress may alter this date.”
Limestone is hosting The County’s third Dollar General, with Caribou’s store (which opened in September 2017) being the first. The second store, located on the Gardener Creek Road in Washburn, recently opened for business with plans for a grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 6.
In addition to these three stores, Petkovic said four more Dollar General stores are under construction in Maine: one on Main St. in Bingham, another in Monmouth, a third in Old Orchard Beach, and a fourth in Patten.
The Patten store, located at 156 South Patten Road, is scheduled to have a soft opening within the next two weeks, with a grand opening celebration tentatively scheduled for Oct. 13.
These Bingham, Monmouth and Old Orchard Beach stores are slated to open at some point between late fall and early 2019.
“As with the Limestone store,” Petkovic wrote in an email, “construction progress may alter these dates.”
The stores will bring between six and ten jobs to their respective communities, and the grand openings are slated to feature an offering of free gift cards to the first 50 adult customers and tote bags for the first 200.
Petkovic said the company also awards grants via the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support adult, family, summer, and youth literacy programs. Since 1993, she said the foundation has awarded “more than $159 million in grants to nonprofit organizations.”
Looking ahead, Limestone’s Interim Town Manager anticipates the local store will have a positive impact on the small border town.
“The town looks forward to the opening of the new store,” he said, “and also looks forward to a long and beneficial relationship.”
