Tractor trailer flips in Amity

AMITY, Maine — A loaded tractor trailer clipped a Maine Department of Transportation plow truck on U.S. Route 1 Thursday afternoon, sending both drivers to the hospital.

According to Sgt. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police Troop F, Paul Folsom, 48, of Houlton was traveling south at about 1:25 p.m. in a 2012 Western Star Log Truck when he spotted the plow truck backing into a driveway.

Folsom told police he tried to raise the driver of the plow truck, identified as Randolph Cole, 59, of Houlton, on his citizens band radio but was not successful.

“The plow of the MDOT truck appears to have been over the centerline and partially in the southbound lane,” Sgt. Fuller stated in the police report.  “Folsom swerved to the right as his truck was hit by the plow truck’s plow.”

Folsom’s rig, which is owned by WT Gardner and Sons, sustained extensive damage when it went off the right side of the road and flipped onto its passenger side, striking several trees.

Both drivers were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital, but the injuries were not expected to be life threatening. The accident is still under investigation.
