PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Chalk up another hockey win for the Presque Isle Wildcats, with this one coming at home against their Aroostook County rivals.

Presque Isle moved to 4-0 on the season thanks to a blistering offensive attack which unleashed 46 shots in a 9-2 victory over the co-op team of Houlton, Hodgdon, Southern Aroostook and Katahdin on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Forum.

The Wildcats scored two goals in the first period and three in the second before putting the game away with a four-goal third period.

Connor DeMerchant supplied three of the tallies, while Thomas Patenaude contributed a pair. Jonah Roy, Gage LeTourneau, Colby Carlisle and Bailey York netted one apiece for Presque Isle.

Jake Stevens, Jonah Roy, Riley Kinney, Connor DeMerchant, Colby Bonville and Quinn DeMerchant compiled assists for PI.

Nate Deluca scored a first-period goal and Logan Swallow capped the Blackhawks’ scoring with one in the second. Elijah Matheson made 37 saves for the visitors, while Brandon Poitras got the start for the Wildcats and collected 11 saves.

Carl Flynn said his team was “rusty” after having missed practice Dec. 17 and 18 due to snow days, but said the Wildcats found their game as the game progressed.

“Once again we stayed out of penalty trouble, which allowed us to take advantage of the Blackhawks’ penalties,” Flynn said. “We played all our personnel and slowly wore down our opponent.”
