Pantry thanks community

Due to the great support of our community, the Friends Helping Friends food pantry was able to provide 30 Thanksgiving meal food boxes, 28 Christmas meal food boxes, and many Christmas gifts to children in need.

Many thanks to PTO, Cub Scouts, Easton United Baptist Church, Easton Wesleyan Church, New Song Church, Kiwanis, Easton Fire Department, United Way, and area businesses.

All food items that were donated to the pantry between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day were also weighed and the total submitted to NorStar Credit Union, which will present funds to the pantry later in the year based on the poundage of donations received. An incredible 1,740 pounds of food were donated during this window. A local business also donated blankets, coats, hats and mittens for the pantry to give away.

Makenzie Kinney is Easton’s 2018 Hoop Shoot winner in the girls 12-13 age group.

Pantry officials can’t thank our community enough for your generosity and partnership in helping to take care of our friends and neighbors in need.

The pantry is open every third Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. in the basement of the Odd Fellows Hall on the Station Road. However, in emergency situations, call Vaughn Martin at 227-3589 if you need assistance.

There are times life just gets hard. If you find yourself in need of food, please call. We want to help you as much as we can. Friends truly do help friends, and we are here for you.

Rec hosts trips

The Easton Recreation Department has secured tickets for Casting Crowns at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Sunday, Feb. 24.

The bus will depart from the Recreation Department at 1 p.m. Participants will enjoy dinner at a Bangor area restaurant and the show starts at 7 p.m.  This is open to adults, families and community members. The total cost is $40. Participants will be responsible for their meal. Ticket must be paid in full by Friday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. Contact Hillary at recreation@eastonme.com to reserve a ticket.  We must have a minimum of 20 to offer bus transportation; 40 seats are available.

In the event of inclement weather, no refunds can be given, but the ticket is yours and you can make alternate travel arrangements.

Two more tours are planned, also at the Cross Center.

On Sunday, April 7, there is the Traxxas Monster Truck Destruction Tour. Tickets are $30 per person. Those attending with Easton Rec will all receive a “pit pass.” On Saturday, April 20, the show is PJ Mask Live at 2 p.m. The cost is $50 for show, recreation time at Bangor Parks and Rec. and transportation. Meal expenses are on your own.
