Young singers, musicians take center stage during Night of Jazz

HOULTON, Maine — The RSU 29 Music Department hosted a night of jazz music Wednesday, March 20, giving the audience a taste of the state competitions that the four groups have been training for.

The High School Jazz Band performed Saturday, March 16, at the state competition at South Portland High School. The group earned an honorable mention. Band members are Nolan Jacobs, Elizabeth Phillips, Zoe Austin, Laci Cummings, Natalie Putnam, Gabby Guiod, Tessa Solomon, Alex Wilde, Trynity Randall, Christian Lively, Nate DeLucca, Sydney Lorom, Marco Almonte, Sidney Peabody, Jayden Swimm and Zach Weeks.

On Saturday, March 23, the Middle School Jazz Band travelled to Westbrook for the state competition, earning a silver medal for their efforts. The Middle School band features Jacklyn Reed, Madalyn Quirk, Ella McCarthy, Amelia MacAtee, Caden Fitzpatrick, Kenzie Hodgkins, Matt Conley, Bruce Wilkinson, Summer Violette, Layla Burtt, Emma McCarthy, Grace Kafferlin, Olivia Cyr, Lydia Byron, Jack Hodgkins and Mariah Peterson.

The Middle and High School Jazz Choirs will compete Saturday, March 30, at Lawrence High School. The Middle School choir features Lydia Byron, Grace Kafferlin, Hannah Duscheneau, Elizabeth Howe, Kaitlyn Kenney, Amelia Callnan, Hillary Peabody, Natalie DeLucca, Teadora Wilde, Tia Burlock, Hailey Suitter, Nicholas Hardy, Kristian Kellerhals and Caden Fitzpatrick.

The High School Jazz Choir features Tessa Solomon, Wendy Smith, Kyleigh Tyler, Isabel Cyr, Emmalyne Drake, Rhylee Parsons, Amelia Findlater, Keaton Michael, Jonathan Smith and Christian Lively.
