CARIBOU, Maine — The State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate a May 30 fire at 1058 Van Buren Road in Caribou 20 days after the incident.

The fire occurred at 9:40 a.m. and Caribou Fire Capt. Danny Raymond said nobody was hurt during the incident. He said that “one room was the origin of the fire,” and that there “was extensive smoke throughout the house,” but he could not say more because the incident remains under investigation.

Just hours later, the house was surrounded by caution tape and a Caribou Police Department vehicle was parked in the driveway.

Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said on June 19 that fire marshals indicated that the incident is still under investigation, adding “like any investigation, there is no timetable they are working under.”
