The TOPS meeting was held Aug. 16 at the Aldergate Building on Kelleran Street in Houlton.

There were seven TOPS and four KOPS members present. The loser of the week was Denise Clark and the runner-up was Mildred Gagnon. Congratulations. Charlotte Marley won the skinny dish and Diane Folsom won the 50/50. Pam Richardson won the health basket.

Charlotte Marley is doing the contest and she said there is a possibility of one of five members winning next week. This contest is easy and, Charlotte, thank you. You’re doing a great job for all of us.

Barbara Troy led in exercise. Is anyone else feeling the results? I certainly hope so.

Jean Merritt did the program from a TOPS magazine article on “The Hurt We Hide by Overeating,” including what to know and ways to overcome. Emotional and stress food feels comfortable and lets us be in control, and also can be a protection from the world. To change this mindset, and begin the healing process, know that you aren’t to blame — whether it’s bullying, abuse or the way you look at yourself — and most of all, you are not alone, so don’t be afraid to ask for help.

The TOPS chapter in Houlton is a great support group and I know we can help others who need a new mindset or a new lifestyle. So come join us to start your journey. We meet every Friday with weigh-in at 7:45 a.m. and an hour meeting at 9. Call me, Pam Richardson FMI at 538-8760.
