HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton football squad is eagerly awaiting the start of this year’s football season. And if Friday evening’s exhibition game against Washington Academy is any indication, good things are in store for the Shires this year.
Houlton blasted visiting Washington Academy 67-0 in an exhibition game Friday at the Maliseet Sports Complex. The Shires scored early and often and benefited from a stingy defense that forced numerous turnovers.
“We set four goals for the kids before the game and they accomplished all of them,” Houlton coach Brian Reynolds said. “We played a clean, sportsmanlike game with only one penalty that I recall. This is a point of emphasis for us. The refs complimented us on our kids and we feel really good about that. The younger guys played awesome and it shows the hard work we are putting in at practice.”
Houlton opens the regular season 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Mt. View of Thorndike.
