CARIBOU, Maine — Teague Park Elementary School went into a “soft lockdown” at approximately 11:40 a.m. Thursday  following an incident in the parking lot with a “potential violent parent,” regarding a “child custody issue,” according to a statement from Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services was at the school as Caribou Police Department arrested Alexander Medina, 49, of Caribou in the school parking lot, according to the statement.

Police say Medina already had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court for a traffic violation, and police said he was arrested without incident.

Medina was charged with violation of bail and illegal attachment of plates.

Students and staff were removed from the playground and sent inside to their classrooms as part of the school’s lockdown protocol, and Gahagan added that “there was no threat to the students or staff.”

Medina’s bail is set to $1,000 cash and his initial court date is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2020.
