Caribou and Connor reject Question 1, show majority support for Trump

CARIBOU, Maine — More than 1,000 Caribou and Connor Township residents came out to vote on March 3 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center, with 1,015 voting in the primary and 1,356 voting on the Maine referendum question.

 

Altogether, 501 voted for a democratic candidate. Former Vice President Joe Biden received significantly more votes than the other democratic candidates with a total of 254 while Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders received 104 votes and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg received 89 votes.

Trump, who ran unopposed in the Republican Party, received a total of 514 votes.

Caribou and Connor Township residents also overwhelmingly opposed the state referendum question, which asked voters if they would agree to allow nonmedical exemptions for vaccines required for children to attend K-12 school, college students and for employment at healthcare facilities. 

In total, 442 voted in favor of the question, choosing to allow individuals to forego vaccines for religious or philosophical purposes, while 914 were opposed.
