Ashland woman hospitalized after Route 11 crash

MASARDIS, Maine — An 89-year-old woman from Ashland has been hospitalized after crashing her vehicle on Route 11 in Masardis.

Rita Sherman was southbound on Route 11 when she failed to turn at a curve and went off the roadway, striking a culvert which caused her vehicle to roll over. The car, a 2000 Toyota Corolla, is considered totaled, according to the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, which arrived on the scene after receiving a 911 call about the crash.

Fire Department and EMS personnel extracted Sherman from the vehicle and transported her to A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital in Presque Isle. Her injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Sherman was wearing her seatbelt.
