MERRILL, Maine — Speed was a factor in a rollover crash in Merrill that sent the driver to the hospital.

Maine State Police Trooper Tim Saucier investigated the single-vehicle crash which occurred after 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

Patrick Sawyer, 33, of Merrill was driving a 2014 Ford pickup truck westbound at a high rate of speed on Route 212 when he lost control and hit a guardrail, according to a police report.

Sawyer overcorrected his steering wheel and the pickup crossed the centerline of the road and went into a ditch where it struck an embankment and a tree before landing on its side, the report said.

Sawyer was taken by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life threatening.

Morgan Kinney, 20, of Smyrna, the only passenger in the pickup, suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
