NEW SWEDEN, Maine — More than 120 New Sweden residents cast their ballots to vote for one selectman for a three-year term and one school committee member for a three-year term on July 14.

David White was elected to the Board of Selectmen with a total of 95 votes. Mike Landeen received 26 votes, and Linda Lewitt and Doug Anderson each received one vote.

Steve Anderson won the school committee seat as a write-in with four votes. Three residents received three write-in votes each, another three received two write-in votes each, and a total of 14 residents each received one write-in vote. One hundred voters left the form blank.

Anderson rescinded the position on the school committee during the town’s annual meeting on July 16. Instead of the position going to the next available individual, it will create a vacancy on the school committee in accordance with the town policy.

If the position is not filled by the committee within 30 days, the town will need to go to election again to fill the seat.
