Evening concert — The Caribou Mandolin and Guitar Club went to Washburn Wednesday, where they furnished music for a concert that evening.
New building – – P.J. Powers has the framework up for his new building on Water Street.
100 Years Ago – Aug. 19, 1920
Court reporter — Miss Mildred Semple served as court reporter at the Caribou Court House under Judge Powers this week.
75 Years Ago – Aug. 16, 1945
Newspaper’s special edition — The staff of Snowball, the Presque Isle Air Base newspaper, published a special edition at the Republican’s office Tuesday evening in honor of Victory Day.
Storm — During the severe thunderstorm of July 25, Philp Kelley of Washburn, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kelley, was met with the loss of 40 chickens.
50 Years Ago – Aug. 19, 1970
New Sweden celebration items — An order of 250 centennial mugs and 250 centennial plates have been placed to fill requests for these items. Cards, flags, banners and centennial stickers are also going to be available for purchase during the New Sweden centennial celebration.
Sleeper family reunion — The family of Mrs. Joseph Sleeper and the late Joseph Sleeper of Caribou held a reunion this summer with all her children and part of their families totalling 37 in number. This was the first reunion in over 15 years of her family, Mrs. Sleeper has 31 grandchildren.
25 Years Ago – Aug. 16, 1995
S&L has new look — The Aroostook County Federal Savings and Loan Association in Caribou held an open house Friday, Aug. 11 to celebrate its new renovations. The bank also installed a new drive-thru, entrance and customer service desk.
Rotary contribution — The Caribou Rotary Club recently donated $40,000 to benefit the Caribou High School Scholarship Fund. Rotary President Arthill Herbert made the check presentation to Caribou Superintendent of Schools, Irwin Belanger and Caribou High School principal David Ouellette.
