HOULTON, Maine — One new case of COVID-19 has been detected after a person tested positive for the virus at Houlton Regional Hospital on Saturday.

Only one case of the virus has been reported, with no additional cases as of Monday, according to Ellen Bartlett, infection preventionist for HRH, though the Maine Center for Disease Control was following up on any close contacts the patient may have had. The patient is also not staying at HRH, making it unknown whether they are symptomatic or not.

Bartlett cautioned residents to remain alert, and that it serves as a reminder that cases could flare up around Houlton at any time.

“We want to get this out there for people to remain vigilant,” said Bartlett. “We’ve had kids back in school for a month now, and we don’t want to risk having to undo that.”

The case brings the total number in Aroostook County to 42 since the beginning of the pandemic, and is currently the only active one in The County. Of the total cases, one person in Aroostook County has died as a result of the virus.
