Caribou boys, girls place second at PVC/Regional B championship

BANGOR, Maine — The Caribou boys and girls cross country runners had strong showings at the PVC/Regional Class B Championship on Saturday at Saxl Park in Bangor. 

Both squads placed second overall and Kayley Bell and Jordan Duplissie each received the fastest times in their categories.

Bell, a sophomore at Caribou High School, received the fastest time for the girls 5K run at 20 minutes and 19.95 seconds and Duplissie, a CHS senior, had the fastest time for the boys at 16:37.96.

“The girls had all seven runners run their best race when it counted, and some improved as much as two minutes,” said Caribou High School girls’ coach Thomas Beckum. “I’m extremely proud of the girls and the effort they put into practice in the last two weeks. When they stay focused and have fun they do well.”

Mount Desert Island won for the girls event, with a score of 27, while Caribou was second with 70 points. Old Town High School was third with a 98. Presque Isle was fifth with 116 points. 

For the boys, Mount Desert Island was first with 33 points. Caribou was second with 45 points and Presque Isle was fifth with 141 points.

Individual results for local girl runners were: 1, Kayley Bell, Caribou, 20:19.95; 2, Anna Jandreau, Presque Isle, 20:42.55; 16, Ivy Riopelle, Caribou, 23:57.23; 17, Kennedy LeVasseur, Caribou, 24:19.53; 19, Amanda Winslow, Presque Isle, 24:30.00; 22, Mikaela Spooner, Caribou, 24:50.01; 24, Tressa Salch, Caribou, 24:53.40; 25, Laura Plourde, Caribou, 25:00.02; 26, Audrey Wimmer, Caribou, 25:06.54; 29, Maddie Jackson, Presque Isle, 25:42.36; 41, Julia Bartley, Presque Isle, 29:07.74; and 46, Stephanie LeClair, Presque Isle, 33:02.35.
