CARIBOU, Maine — Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital plans to open a walk-in clinic in Caribou to accommodate residents amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a correspondence between the hospital and state Department of Health and Human Services on the Maine.gov website.

The walk-in care clinic will be offered to Aroostook County patients starting Jan. 4 and located within the footprint of Northern Light’s current Caribou facility at 118 Bennett Drive, according to Northern Light Associate Vice President Cherri Fitzpatrick’s Dec. 2 letter to the state DHHS.

The letter also said the project would fall within the standards of not being subject to review, as costs are well below the state’s $3,709,539 capital cost threshold, as well as the $1,236,513 third-year operating cost threshold.

Richard Lawrence, senior health care financial analyst for the Maine DHHS, wrote back on Dec. 4, giving the hospital the go-ahead to move forward with the proposal without a review. He said the hospital would need to apply for a review if they find that the threshold has gone beyond the established limit.
