Stingy defense leads Hodgdon to victory over Washburn

HODGDON, Maine — A strong defensive effort by the Hodgdon girls basketball team paid dividends as the Hawks flew to a 41-28 win over visiting Washburn Monday evening.

The win marked the first victory for the Hawks on the young season as the team improved to 1-2 on the year. Washburn was playing in its first game of the season.

Sadie Thompson led the way for Hodgdon with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Thompson also had a number of steals for the Hawks. Sabra Scott and Marissa Dow both chipped in nine points, while Emma Drew had seven and Kylee Mooers added four.

For the visiting Beavers of Washburn, Emma Johnston led all players with 14 points, while Raegyn Chavez added nine, Trinity Saucier-Pellicer had three and Kyli Farley added two.

Hodgdon led 9-2, 22-6 and 31-18 at the quarter breaks.
