EAST CHAPMAN, Maine — An Ashland man was charged with multiple motor vehicle violations on Saturday night, after crashing the pickup truck he was driving into another vehicle and leaving the scene of the crash, police said.

Ryan McPherson, 19, was driving east on Chapman Road in East Chapman at approximately 9:16 p.m on Saturday when he crashed a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck into an unoccupied 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Christopher Amero of Presque Isle, according to the Aroostook County Sheriff.

McPherson left after crashing into Amero’s vehicle. He lost control of the pickup truck he was driving, which went into a ditch and rolled several times before coming to a stop.

McPherson was transported by ambulance to Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle with non-life threatening injuries.

He was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to provide evidence of insurance, failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and operating a defective motor vehicle, said the sheriff, adding that deputies are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Amero’s vehicle had approximately $5,000 in damage. McPherson’s vehicle was a total loss and had to be towed, police said.

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Presque Isle Fire Department and the Presque Isle Police Department.
