CARIBOU, Maine — Though steady rain showers cancelled the parade, a small group of Caribou organizations came together at Veterans Memorial Park on Monday and paid tribute to soldiers and veterans past and present.
Those who attended the short ceremony included representatives of the Caribou Lister-Knowlton VFW Post 9319, Henry B. Pratt Jr. American Legion Post 15, the City of Caribou, Boy Scout Troop 186 and Girl Scout Diamond Service Unit.
“Let us remember those who gave their lives so we could be here today,” said VFW Commander Roger Felix.
Members of the VFW and American Legion placed flags in the park garden in honor of all local veterans who have passed away since Memorial Day 2020. They also placed wreaths in honor of prisoners of war, Gold Star families and veterans.
“Those who lost their lives could not have had a more noble cause,” said Post 15 Commander Cuppy Johndro. “Let’s continue to hold onto our ideals of freedom, justice and democracy.”
Boy Scout Jim O’Mara and Girl Scout Michaela Spooner assisted VFW member Gary Saucier and American Legion member George McDougal with raising the flag and saluted as the sound of taps filled the air.
