HODGDON, Maine — Voter turnout was extremely light for the six communities that make up SAD 70 on Tuesday, June 8, to decide the fate of a $6.5 million school budget.
A total of just 65 ballots were cast by voters in the communities of Amity, Haynesville, Hodgdon, Linneus, Ludlow and New Limerick.
The budget passed overwhelmingly with 60 in favor and just four opposed. One ballot was voided as it was not filled out properly.
Linneus had the strongest representation with 30 voters casting ballots. In comparison, Hodgdon saw 11 ballots cast, while New Limerick had eight; Amity, seven; Haynesville, five; and Ludlow, four.
At $6,567,555, the budget marks a reduction of $555,582 from the previous year.
Voters were also asked to grant approval to the school district to transfer funds exceeding 5 percent of the total appropriation for any cost center to another cost center.
That article passed by a vote of 47 in favor and 14 opposed.
