DYER BROOK, Maine — The Southern Aroostook and Hodgdon boys and girls soccer squads met on a slippery, muddy field Monday afternoon at Southern Aroostook Community School.
Following the heavy rains over the weekend, portions of both the boys and girls fields at SACS were a bit squishy, causing players to easily slip and slide on the wet grass.
The Hodgdon boys picked up a 4-0 victory over Southern Aroostook, while the Warrior girls were victorious 5-0 over Hodgdon.
The Hawk boys received a pair of goals from Anton Mowery, as well as solo goals from Caleb Nash and Drew Duttweiler in the win. For Nash, Monday’s goal was his first varsity goal. Sam Duff and Duttweiler also tallied assists in the game.
Southern Aroostook goalie Brennan Burpee had 20 saves on 30 shots, including stopping a penalty kick early in the second half. Hodgdon deployed three goalies in the contest with Duttweiler, Kameryon Matheson and Reiley Wright all spending time in net. The trio combined for five saves on eight shots.
With the win, Hodgdon improved to 4-2-1 on the year, while the Warriors dropped to 0-7.
In the girls game, Southern Aroostook took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break thanks to first-half goals by Emmalee Landry, Aliana Stevens and Madison Russell. After the break, Russell struck again for her second goal of the game, followed shortly after by Jenna Brooks.
Southern Aroostook is now 2-2 on the season, while Hodgdon drops to 1-3-1.
