HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met Oct. 4 for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. We began with a mass at 5:30 p.m. for the living and deceased members of the council, celebrated by Father Kevin.

There were five members present. Each member brought their own lunch and we wore our masks and were socially distanced.

President Janet Barker conducted the meeting following our luncheon. She reviewed the many projects that the Council does  for the church and community throughout the year. The council is again sponsoring a shower for the local animal shelters. A box will be placed at the back of the church and parishioners are invited to participate if they wish.

We will be having our wreath raffle again this year. The lighted wreath is decorated with 50 $1 bills. Tickets will be available before and after the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. masses on Nov. 7 and Nov. 14. Tickets will also be available at Betty Marie’s Sweet Shop on Main Street.

At our November meeting we will address Christmas cards for shut ins. Anyone who would like to help with this project is welcome to attend. Birthdays and anniversaries were noted. Prayers were gathered and we said 10 Hail Marys.

The next meeting is Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Center. All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
