CARIBOU, Maine — Multiple departments were called in to fight a fire Wednesday at a log home in New Sweden in which authorities say a cat perished.

The Caribou Fire Department received a call just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday that a fire had erupted at a single-story log home at 87 West Rd. According to the Caribou Fire Department, the building was owned by Dennis Plucker and was not insured.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The house was rented.

A total of 22 firefighters and other emergency workers from Caribou, Washburn, Stockholm, North Lakes and Presque Isle worked to keep the fire from spreading any further.

The building is considered a total loss, and the cause of the fire remained unknown on Thursday afternoon.
