FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Fort Fairfield school system moved into remote learning on Thursday, Jan. 20.
“Due to the inability to provide adequate coverage for the absences of essential employees within the MSAD No. 20 district’s schools, all Fort Fairfield schools will be in a remote learning model for Thursday, January 20, 2022, and Friday, January 21, 2022,” said SAD 20 Superintendent Tim Doak in a letter that was sent home to parents.
As of 1:55 p.m. on Jan. 19, the Fort Fairfield schools have six active COVID-19 cases in the elementary school, and six active cases in the middle/high school. As of Jan. 12, the Fort Fairfield schools stopped contact tracing or quarantining students and staff due to universal masking.
In the same manner as the remote instances from late 2021, the change has been made for the safety of students and faculty alike.
Elementary school students will be sent home with learning packets at the end of the school day. If a student is not present today, the packet can be picked up from the school between noon and 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20. Elementary school students will also be able to pick up laptops, should they be needed, from 9 a.m. to the end of the school day on Thursday, Jan. 20.
Middle/high school students are expected to attend their classes virtually for the rest of the week, and lunches will be delivered for those who have signed up for the lunch delivery program.
Unlike the shifts to remote learning from late 2021, this will last for the rest of the week only. Fort Fairfield schools will return to in-person learning on Monday, Jan. 24. Information can be found on the Fort Fairfield school website.
