CARIBOU, Maine — A powerful performance by Sophia Lynch aligned with two high-scoring quarters guided Ellsworth to a 61-46 victory over the Caribou Vikings Monday, Feb. 7.

This victory marked Ellsworth’s 10th victory of the season as the Eagles improved to 10-6. Caribou dropped to 8-8 on the year.

For Ellsworth, Sophia Lynch led the Eagles with a towering 31 points, followed by Morgan Clifford with 16 and both Abby Radel and Lily Bean adding five.

“It definitely went well, but this was a tough one,” said Ellsworth girls varsity coach Andy Pooler. “I think we played really well on both ends of the floor, so I was happy about that. We scored well and got good stops when we needed to. Playing a complete game like this before the tournament is important. Caribou is a good team, and they are excellent, so for us to come in and take care of business, I was really happy with that.”

For Caribou, Madelynn Deprey led the Vikings with 15 points, followed by Joslyn Griffeth with 12 and Ashlyn Bouchard with nine. Selena Savage added on four, Gabbie Sutherland scored three and Ainsley Caron chipped in one.

The Eagles came out with a strong first quarter performance, scoring 19 points and limiting the Vikings to eight. By halftime, Ellsworth had slowed down, giving Caribou the opportunity to bounce back and make up some points. With these efforts, Caribou entered the third quarter less than 10 points behind Ellsworth, 29-20.

Caribou pushed the offensive strategy even further in the third, scoring an additional 15 points while Ellsworth scored 13, further shortening the gap between the two at 42-35.

In the fourth quarter, Ellsworth regained its momentum and once again pushed the offense, maintaining solid ball control. Caribou did not quit, and was still putting points on the board, but the Eagles were too quick, and the gap between the scores became too great, ending the game at 61-46 in favor of Ellsworth.
